This process elucidated the metabolism shifting through down-regulation of the phosphoinositide 3 kinase (PI3K)/AKT protein kinase/insulin pathway to an up-regulation of fatty acid metabolism, and provided a foundation for potential heart regeneration therapy using human embryonic stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hESC-CMs).
